Data Engineer - Group Data Platform
Our company is building a Global Data Platform that serves the whole Group and powers its next stage of growth. We're looking for a Data Engineer to join one of the key teams shaping how data is built, moved and governed across the organization. This isn't a maintenance role. Our engineering standards and tooling are still being shaped, and you will be one of the people shaping them. We also expect our engineers to use AI actively in their own work - not as a gimmick, but as a normal part of how the job gets done. Below is what you would actually own.
Required education: School-leaving exam
Required languages: English (advanced), Czech or Slovak is highly beneficial
Employment form: Full-time work
- Design, build and operate production data pipelines on our Azure Lakehouse (Databricks, Delta Lake, Spark) - from source ingestion to the models used in reporting and self-service analytics.
- Integrate different source systems - ERP, pharmacy/POS, APIs, file extracts - including incremental loads, historisation and safe reprocessing.
- Turn business requirements into data models that hold up over time, and write the solution design before development starts.
- Own your pipelines in production: monitoring, data quality checks, reconciliation against source, and root-cause analysis instead of "rerun and hope".
- Use AI to make your own work faster, and build your own tooling for it - coding assistants in daily development, and small agents or scripts that take over the repetitive parts of data engineering: data quality triage, documentation and mapping, test generation, analysis of pipeline failures.
- Apply access control, personal-data handling and GDPR requirements to what you build, and keep lineage and documentation up to date.
- Work directly with data engineers in the country teams, external partners and business stakeholders (Controlling, Commercial and others), so that development does not become siloed.
- 3+ years of hands-on data engineering - pipelines running in production, not only prototypes. (Fewer years but strong fundamentals? Talk to us.)
- Solid experience with the Azure data stack: Databricks, Delta Lake, Spark. Data Factory, Event Hub or Synapse is a plus.
- Advanced PySpark and SQL beyond the basics - window functions, reading an execution plan, knowing why a query is slow.
- Python as a language, not only as notebook glue: modules, packaging, dependency management, error handling, logging.
- Practical fluency with AI tooling in engineering work (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) - incl. the judgement to know where it helps and where its output cannot be trusted without review.
- Data modelling - dimensional and normalised models, slowly changing dimensions, choosing and holding a grain.
- Git workflow with branching and pull requests, plus practical CI/CD experience (Azure DevOps or equivalent).
- Pipeline orchestration and scheduling (Databricks Workflows, Data Factory, Airflow or similar).
- Ability to take a moderately complex assignment from requirement to production on your own
- A proactive, collaborative mindset: happy to propose a better way of working, and equally happy to hear why yours might not be it.
- Fluent English - you will work with colleagues in several countries every week.
- A fast-growing, genuinely international data & digital environment with real impact at the European level.
- The chance to help shape how a major European retail group works with data - not just execute on someone else's blueprint.
- A modern cloud data platform, no legacy baggage holding you back.
- AI tooling provided and encouraged - licences for coding assistants, and room to automate your own work rather than grinding through it.
- A team that values sharing knowledge over working in silos.
- Room to grow - both technically and into broader ownership over time.
- Flexibility: A flexible working environment tailored to modern standards.
- Package: Discounts in pharmacies, fully paid Multisport Card, meal vouchers, contribution for Lítačka etc.
